Elementary Librarian Receives Grant

libraryThe Towanda Area School District was recently notified that Mrs. Tiffanie Jayne, elementary librarian for the Towanda Area Elementary School, was granted a $ 3,000.00 award from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Youth Literacy Grants through the Dollar General Youth Literacy Grant Program provide funding for schools and nonprofit organizations to help students who are below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading. Mrs Jayne will use the grant allocation funds to buy books for the library that encourage reluctant readers and those reading below grade level. Books purchased with these funds include easy-to-read chapter books, current fiction titles, updated nonfiction and reader's theater materials. Mrs. Pam Hosterman, elementary principal says, "We are so pleased that Mrs. Jayne took the initiative to make application for a grant that would benefit our students." The Towanda Area School District wishes to congratulate Tiffanie Jayne on successfully being awarded funds to supplement the Towanda Area Elementary School library collection and for serving as part of the Professional Learning Community in the building, committed to student learning and achievement! Mrs Valerie Miller, Accounting Supervisor and Grants Coordinator will assist with the financial aspect of the grant allocation, including accounting of the expenditures and audit obligations.

August – School Bus Safety

It’s that time when school buses are everywhere. If a school bus has its lights flashing and stop arm extended, you must stop. The only exception is if you are on the opposite side of a highway divided by a concrete barrier or grassy median. If you are following or traveling alongside a school bus, the law also requires you to stop at least 10 feet away. Learn more about the school bus stopping law and penalties for violations at www.DriveSafePA.org.
